Reading that stays with you, for minds that wander.

Give your eyes something to follow, and actually finish what you start.

Bionic reading is free. No subscription, no account.

The tab has been open since Tuesday. It's a good article, someone you trust sent it, and you really do mean to read it. But every time you start, your eyes slide to the sidebar, then the notification, then back to the top of the paragraph you just finished. Reading isn't the problem. Keeping your place is.

Skimora gives your eyes something to follow: bold word starts to land on, a highlight that keeps moving, or a single word held in the middle of the screen. Pick the one that suits the page, then keep going.

Press Autopace, Cadence or GlideMark on the toolbar to try it.

The real toolbar, running on this page. Autopace, Cadence and GlideMark are part of the license, and they work here anyway.

It isn't your attention span.

Long pages give your eyes nothing to hold and plenty else to look at. Here's what that looks like, and the fix.

  • You lose your place

Every glance away costs you the line. Finding it again costs you the paragraph.

  • The page is noise

Banners, margins and pop-ups compete with the sentence you are on.

  • You reread the same line

With nothing to guide them, your eyes jump around and go back over ground they already covered.

  • You quit halfway

Not because the article was bad. Because staying with every line took more out of you than it was worth.

Why long pages wear you out

Most of the trouble with a page is everything around the words. A banner asks for a decision before you have read a sentence. A panel in the margin shows something that has nothing to do with the article. Something slides in from the corner just as you reach the good part.

Take those away and the page is quiet again. The text is wider, the lines are easier to follow, and the only thing left to do is read.

Focus Mode plus bionic bolding, on a page made to be busy.

Each problem has a tool for it

Try them as you go: press the toolbar icons, drag the sliders, select some text.

Your eyes slide off the line

Plain text gives your eyes nothing to hold, so you drift and read the line again.

The fix. Bionic reading bolds the start of each word, so your eyes land and move on. Free on every page you can read.

A long paragraph is a wall. Somewhere in the middle of it your attention leaves, and your eyes keep travelling over words you are no longer taking in. Then you notice, and you go back to the start of the line, and the wall is a little taller than before.

You lose your place when you look away

One glance at your phone and the line is gone, along with the paragraph around it.

The fix. Cadence keeps a highlight on the words you're up to. GlideMark draws one band that grows as you read.

Sunlight moved across the desk while the report stayed open. Page nine, page ten, a table of figures, another table. The words were all there and none of them stayed. The next paragraph began the same way the last one had, and you followed it with your eyes and nothing else.

Press Cadence or GlideMark on the toolbar to try it.

Your pace drifts, and so does your attention

You speed up on the easy parts, stall on the hard ones, and slip into skimming.

The fix. Autopace shows one word at a time in the middle of a clean screen, at a pace you set on one dial.

Some paragraphs you fly through and some you have to fight. The trouble is that you can't tell which is which until you're already halfway in, and by then your eyes have sped up, or stalled, or wandered off to check the time.

Press Autopace on the toolbar to try it.

The page and the room are both loud

Sidebars and pop-ups on the screen, traffic and chatter in the room.

The fix. Focus Mode hides everything but the article, and focus sound plays something steady underneath. Reading fonts include Atkinson Hyperlegible, made by the Braille Institute.

PDFs and EPUBs are worse

Extensions can't reach into Chrome's PDF viewer, and running headers cut into every paragraph.

The fix. Skimora's reader pulls out the text with pdf.js, Mozilla's open-source PDF engine, and drops the running headers. Then the same bolding and pacers apply.

You read it, and it's gone

A week later you remember there was a great line, and not where it was.

The fix. Select a line and press Highlight. It is saved with the words around it, and your Library exports to Markdown or JSON.

Select any sentence in this paragraph and a Highlight button appears next to it. Press it and the sentence is saved to your Library along with the words around it, so months from now you'll remember where it came from and why you kept it.

How long did you actually read today?

Not how long the tab was open. Skimora counts only the minutes you stayed with the page, and never turns them into a speed score.

Sample year. Yours fills in as you read.

Before you buy

Does Skimora work on every website?

It works on most pages you can read, including articles, documentation, GitHub, Jira, Notion and Slack. It doesn't run on Chrome's own pages, the Chrome Web Store or Chrome's built-in PDF viewer, and it leaves text fields and editable pages alone.

Does bionic reading make me read faster?

Skimora does not promise that, and the research on bionic reading is mixed. Some readers find bold word starts easier to follow and others do not. It is free, so try it on a page you need to read and keep it if it helps.

What do I get for free?

Bionic reading on any page you can read, at a fixed strength. Skimora also counts your deep-reading minutes for free, shows today's total in the popup, and makes a shareable session card. No account is needed.

Is $19 a subscription?

No. It is one payment for a lifetime license. There is nothing to renew.

Can I get a refund?

Yes. Ask within 14 days of buying and you get back the full amount you paid. You don't have to say why. The refund policy explains how to ask.

What data does Skimora collect?

None. There is no account, no analytics and no telemetry. Your settings, highlights, notes and reading stats stay in your browser. The one request Skimora makes carries only your license key, to check it is valid.
